Who started County Flora?County Flora was born from an idea by Rachel Kuzmich and most of our activities are facilitated by her as well. Rachel is an avid hiker and naturalist with a background in biology and geography, and a passion for nature,
What kind of activities do you offer?We offer a series of regular (near) weekly hikes all summer on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. There are also workshops - like plant identification and nature journaling - that you can participate in. Activity location may vary, but most are hosted at Macaulay Mountain Conservation Area. Please check our calendar for more information and don't forget to RSVP to let us know you are coming!
How much do activities cost?Prices vary, may differ for County Flora Club members and all prices are suggested. Prices are suggested to ensure that all of our events are accessible to all members of our community. If you can afford to pay more, then you are helping subsidize the cost to others who cannot. Please check individual events for specific information.
Sounds great, how do I pay for activities?You can pay in person in cash at the start of our events. Or you can pay in advance online here. Please enter the appropriate custom amount and add a comment with the event you wish to participate in.
How about the membership, what's up with that?Annual membership to the County Flora Club for 2019 is $100. As a member you can participate in select hikes at no cost, get discounts on workshops, invites to members only activities, access to exclusive online content, and more.
How can I prepare for a hike?Check the weather before heading out and dress appropriately. We suggest avoiding open toe shoes or sandals and recommend hiking boots as they help protect your ankles. You may also want to wear or bring a hat, sunscreen and bug spray. Make sure you bring enough to drink. And always remember to check for ticks after spending time outside.
